Tips for Visitors

Here are essential tips and advice for visitors and future vendors attending the Denver Gem & Mineral Showcase.

Preparation

  • Check the official dates and schedule of the Denver Gem & Mineral Showcase.
  • Decide on your budget and prepare adequate cash (small bills are useful for negotiating).
  • Bring multiple printed copies of your state resale license (if you are a wholesale buyer).
  • Bring multiple printed copies of your Sales Tax Exemption Certificate (if you are a wholesale buyer).
  • Bring plenty of extra business cards for networking and vendor record-keeping.
  • Call your credit card companies before travelling to notify them of your travel plans. This helps prevent your card from being unexpectedly frozen due to unusual/out-of-state transactions.
  • Set up and verify your digital payment accounts (such as PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle). Note that some independent vendors do not accept credit cards.
  • Wear or pack a lightweight jacket. Temperatures in Denver can be chilly in the early mornings and evenings during September.
  • Use a shoulder bag or crossbody purse to keep your hands free and secure your belongings. Beware of pickpockets at crowded show venues. If using a backpack, wear it in front or keep zip compartments secured.
  • Bring physical samples or high-resolution photos of stones if you need to match specific colors or shapes for restocking.
  • Complete online registration or buy tickets in advance to save time at the entrance, as several independent shows require pre-registration.
  • Prepare your shipping account numbers (USPS, UPS, FedEx, or DHL) and pre-print your shipping labels to streamline mailing from the show.

Buying & Navigating the Shows

  • Take your time. With over 1,000 vendors across multiple venues, you will need ample time to explore and compare prices.
  • Search for vendor locations and booth numbers on our Exhibitors List directory.
  • Wear comfortable, supportive walking shoes.
  • If you are a wholesale buyer hunting for rare or top-quality specimens, attend on opening day. Opening days are very busy for a reason.
  • Avoid rolling large suitcases through crowded indoor aisles. They obstruct traffic and risk knocking over delicate display shelves.
  • Stretch your legs and lower back before and after walking the show floors all day.
  • Arrive early to secure the best parking spots, especially on opening days at high-traffic venues.
  • Carry your own basic tools—such as a small scale, calipers, jeweler’s loupe, and calculator—so you don’t have to wait for busy salespeople.
  • Consistently keep your wallet, cards, and smartphone in the same secure, inner pocket or bag compartment.
  • Do a quick walk-through of the whole venue first to gauge average prices and map out which vendors carry the items you want.
  • Before leaving a booth, grab the vendor’s business card and jot down their booth number, date, prices, and stone details on the back for future reference.
  • Double-check quantity, color, shape, and condition/damage of stones before completing your purchase and leaving the booth.
  • If you purchase heavy merchandise mid-day, ask the vendor to hold it at their booth until you are ready to head to your car.
  • Keep shipping carrier hours in mind: major post offices and shipping centers (USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL) are often closed or have limited hours on Sundays. If departing Denver on Sunday, plan to ship your parcels on Friday or Saturday, or utilize on-site show shipping services.

Tips for Future Vendors

  • If you wish to participate as an exhibitor in the Denver Gem & Mineral Showcase, contact event organizers at least 6 to 12 months in advance. Prime booth spaces frequently sell out a year ahead.
  • If you require a US VISA invitation letter or official documentation, contact the specific show organizers directly (this website cannot issue visa invitations).
  • Maintain strict security over your inventory. Unfortunately, theft and robbery occur every year at trade shows, and losses are rarely covered by basic insurance unless specialized transit coverage is secured.
